Violet Marie Goddard Murphy (Aunt Sis) Knoxville - Violet Marie Murphy age 82, passed away Sunday July 18, 2021 at Westmoreland Health & Rehab, surrounded by family. She was an active member of the Farragut Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses and was active in the full time ministry. Marie was born on December 9, 1938 in New Brunswick, NJ. She is preceded in death by her Parents: Viola G. Rau Goddard & Clarence William Goddard Sr., Grandsons: Jeremy Patterson, Bruer Chastain, Brothers: Henry & George Salzmann, Clarence W. Jr., Howard E., & G. Fredrick Goddard, and Sisters: Gertrude Allen, Elizabeth Lott, & Veronica Salzmann. She is survived by her daughters Darleen (Donald) Patterson, Debra Patterson, Donna Chastain, Denise Murphy and Delayne (Brian) King. 19 Grandchildren & Spouses, 11 Great Grandchildren along with several nephews and nieces and many, many friends. Marie lived in New Jersey for the early part of her life. She married Jerry Lee Murphy from TN in 1957. They had 5 daughters and moved to Tennessee February of 1973. Then on July 5, 1975 she was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Her secular career included Revlon Cosmetics in Edison, NJ, Davis Braided Rug Company in Cleveland, TN, & Brakebill Nursing Home (Now known as Westmoreland Health & Rehab) in Knoxville, TN. After retirement she entered into full time ministry work beginning December 2004 until her death. Marie and her brother, Freddie, were avid travelers visiting many countries. She had many collections and hobbies over the years. She also loved her many pet companions. However, her greatest joys later in life were her grandchildren, great grandchildren and most importantly her ministry. She was known by many names throughout the years: Sis, Mom, Mother, Grandma, Mimi but the most meaningful was Sister Murphy. We will always remember her laugh, her big smile, her quick witt, her humor and her love of hospitality in her healthy years. We look forward to seeing her “just around the corner”. Violet Marie Murphy’s Memorial Service will be held on August 28, 2021 via ZOOM at 3 PM. The ZOOM LOGIN ID: 721 267 9503 & PASSWORD: 241420. Receiving Family/Friends will be held from 2-2:45 PM and at the conclusion until 5 PM. A Memory Picture Video will be shown at 2:45 PM. In lieu of flowers please make donations to jw.org.
